OneWeb Satellite

Currently the connectivity is accessible in all areas over 50 degrees latitude. Latency is less than 50 milliseconds, and speeds are 100 Mbps or more.

Operating from the epicentre of the global communications sphere, OneWeb is pioneering the construction of a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network. The company's goal is to deliver high-speed internet connectivity, expected to reach up to 200 Mbps, to every corner of the globe, including the remotest regions.

Major investments from the UK government and Bharti Global, each contributing $500 million, along with funding from SoftBank, underscore OneWeb's financial foundation. In a landmark decision in July 2022, OneWeb announced its merger with France's leading satellite operations company, Eutelsat. This merger, expected to be concluded by mid-2023, will unite Eutelsat's 36 geostationary orbit (GEO) satellites and OneWeb's expanding LEO satellite constellation, marking the first-ever amalgamation of LEO and GEO satellites.

As of January 2023, OneWeb had successfully deployed 542 satellites, with further launches following that period, aiming towards a total constellation of 648 satellites. At the helm of the company is CEO Neil Masterson, who joined OneWeb in October 2020, bringing his extensive experience as a former executive and co-COO at Thomson Reuters.

OneWeb's focus is on providing internet services to government and military infrastructure, businesses, and governmental entities. Rather than directly selling satellite internet to consumers, OneWeb is forging alliances with telecom companies, broadband providers, and other organisations that offer internet services.
